Epicu puhul on tegemist „cross-country olympic“ ehk XCO ehk maastikusõidu olümpiaala põhirattaga, mis on Specialized’ile maastikul kõige enim võite kogunud. Alates olümpiavõitudest kuni maailmameistritiitliteni, MK-de (üle 100 World Cup võidu) ja Cape Epicu võitudeni – selleks rattaks on olnud Epic. Fakt – viimase 20 aasta jooksul on Epic see ratas, millega on võidetud maailmas kõige enim poodiumikohti, võrdluseks teiste kaheamordiliste XC ratastega.
Võrreldes eelneva põlvkonna Epicuga on rattal uuenenud aju – uue Epicu aju on topelt pikema (24 kuud) hooldevälbaga ja sellest tuleneva hooldusgarantiiga. Lisaks on aju vastupidavam ning tundlikum. Raam. FACT 11m karbon (kõikide mudelite raamid on nüüd valmistatud Fact11m karbonist v.a. S-Works, mis on Fact 12m) raam on nüüd samas kaalus ja jäikuse astmes kui eelmise põlvkonna S-Works raam. Geomeetria. Tänapäevased XC rajad on muutunud tehnilisemaks ning seetõttu on Epicu raamigeomeetrias tehtud muudatusi trail-rataste eeskujul. Amortide pikkused 100m ees ja 100mm taga. Kahvli nurka on toodud ettepoole, raami esiosa ja keskjooks toodud madalamale. Tulemus – tehniliselt väga nõudlikul rajal on ratas stabiilsem = kiirem.
